Q1: How was this drawn?
A1: This was drawn directly on my Nintendo DS using the DS stylus. This was not enhanced or changed using computer software.

Q2: Where can I get ColorsDS?
A2: If you are interested learning how to draw on your DS with this kind of quality, you can download it for your DS only if you have a slot-1 Flash card, go to: [link]

Q3: Whats a slot-1 flash card?
A3: The slot-1 is where your NDS game cartridges go. A flash card looks like a regular NDS game cartridge, but it has a tiny micro SD card that slips in it. You can add files to the micro SD card by inserting it into the USB device it comes with (the usb is how you download your pictures from your DS cartridge card). And it comes with it because it's all part of the package when you order a slot-1 flash card for your DS. There are many different kinds. Mine is called an R4 and I ordered it from [link] Here is the R4 official website: [link] The great thing about slot-1 flash cards is you can watch movies or listen to music on your DS.

Q4: Why is the resolution higher than the DS screen size?
A4: Because the canvas goes past the screen resolution of the DS. Same for your computer, you can start a new canvas size in photoshop that is larger than your screen resolution.

About: This is the 3rd and final project. Skzero and I started a project of nintendo characters we liked for our own Super Smash Bros. game.

part 1: Rampage (nes) - lizzie turns into the dinosaur and george turns into the gorilla, but I ran out of room for Ralph. This was my first game to play on a nintendo.
part 2: A favorite racing game of mine for the snes: samurai goroh, pico, and captain falcon are f-zero characters. I only liked the f-zero designs for the snes. After the snes I lost interest in f-zero.
Part 3: Starfox characters: Falco Lambardi, Miyu (the lynx from Starfox 2 on the snes which was never released), Slippy Toad, Fox McCloud, Andross, a 64 Arwing, and I ran out of room for Mr. Barrel Roll :(
Part 4: Random characters: Lyn from Fire Emblem (Skzero dislikes Lyn but she's my favorte FE character), Sonic (btw I don't think I've ever drawn Sonic or Cream. I think I drew them kind of crappy, but I'm sure I would get better if I drew them often). Kirby, and a Bomberman character.

With every picture in your gallery, your "Awesome" level goes up in my book. I love watching talented artists who share my interests. Not only do I get to share art of things I already am a fan of, but I am also often introduced to things by those people that I never would have even known about or seen otherwise.

I look forward to seeing what you do with this gallery next, with mediums more complex and dynamic than DS "Colors" ... since you said this will likely be the last picture of this type you will upload. ( ... plus, I think you mentioned something about having a Website elsewhere. I'll have to check that out).

Oh, and ... MIYU!!!! ( + 500,000 more *useless* bonus points )

I share your same ideas about everything retro, being introduced to other artists who share similar interests. Thank you : ) Yeah I will probably not do any more pictures like this on my DS for a long while. It was just a fun project. Oh btw, someone directed me to your DA page last week. I saw they had a SF2 sprite as their avatar so I had your page under my bookmarks/favorites. I can't find any better references to draw Miyu. Do you by any chance have some? I want to draw her patterns on her head correctly. If not, that is ok. Thank you for what you have on your DA page anyways!

Technically speaking, the only "Official" images of Miyu Lynx in EXISTENCE are her mug shots from SF2 ... as far as I know.

Here are ALL of the 2D Sprites for EVERY character in StarFox 2 --> [link] And Here is a 'Blown Up' version of the best image of Miyu, just for convenience. --> [link]

Also, if you are ever interested in finding more references for the StarFox series, check out 'Arwing Landing' @ [link]


Unfortunately, since the game was never actually released, the original concept artwork for Miyu and Fay are probably locked away in the personal archive of the original artist, or a long forgotten resource vault at Nintendo ... if they even still exist at all. To my knowledge, no such images have ever been made public.

Regardless, I'm pretty good at tracking down obscure references, so if there is ever anything else you are having trouble finding, feel free to ask.

Oh, alright, -You're right about the official art thing never being released. Those 3 links were helpful. I'll study the Miyu reference a little more or just make up what I don't know. Thanks a lot for your help!

haha thank you, yes I had that game too. Drawn to life. But it doesn't give you a whole lot of freedom to draw anything decent on it. Not even the pictochat that comes with the DS. Not until I found this: [link]
